JOB SUMMARY

This position reports to the Program Director and provides therapeutic support and supervision to youth who have intellectual disabilities to help them meet their goals, under the supervision of the Program Director. This position will also be responsible for monitoring medication administration in the program.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the accomplishment of the treatment plan for residents, under the supervision of the Program Director.
  2. Ensure all medication stocked and re-filled in a timely manner.
  3. Schedule and attend all relevant medical and psychiatric appointments.
  4. Train staff in medication administration.
  5. Monitor residents for side-effects and document and report accordingly.
  6. Order supplies and check deliveries; stock and maintain inventory.
  7. Maintain appropriate case recording documentation as per agency and contract guidelines.
  8. Transport residents as needed to daily living activities.
  9. Engage client’s in a therapeutic manner and maintain healthy boundaries.
  10. Conduct work-oriented daily living skills sessions and re-socialization activity groups.
  11. Attend staff meetings as required.
  12. Attend job-related conferences and also participate in a variety of in-service trainings, seminars, and practicum.
  13. Participate in carrying out individual and group treatment programs for residents as part of the treatment team and encourage resident participation in treatment activities.
  14. Attend weekly supervision meetings with the Program Director.
  15. Motivate residents to develop self-reliance in daily living.
  16. Observe patient’s physical condition and behavior; report significant changes to the Program Director.
  17. Responsible for ensuring staffing ratio is at a minimum by being able to work any and all shifts upon request.
  18. Respond to emergency health situations in appropriate manner as defined by emergency first aid training.
  19. Supporting resident’s to follow daily schedules.
  20. Prepare and maintain a variety of records, and prepare reports, including actions of resident misbehavior and rule violations.
  21. Will think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
  22. Will drive on Agency business.
  23. Physical presence at the program is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Possession of a valid license as a Psychiatric Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse as issued by the State of California.
  2. A high school diploma and preferably at least 1 years full-time experience providing direct client services plus twelve (12) college semester units in a mental health, social service, education, or similar course of study.
  3. Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Supplemental college course work in behavioral or social sciences, and one (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to a Mental Health Worker or related nursing experience.
  4. Must meet the minimum age of 21 pursuant to California Health & Safety Code Section 1562.
  5. Communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  6. Ability to write acceptable reports to referring agencies.
  7. Work effectively with diverse ethnic, religious, socio-economical, and professional groups.
  8. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate services for Developmentally Disabled residents of the Crisis House.
  9. Understand and apply principles and techniques involved in the care and treatment of individuals or groups of Developmentally Disabled clients.
  10. Recognize contraindications, side-effects, and signs of medication complications.
  11. Analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
  12. Participate in treatment programs for patients.
  13. Understand and follow written and oral directions.
  14. Express ideas clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing.
  15. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  16. Must be certified in emergency first aid procedures prior to working alone with any client.
  17. Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws. Agency insurer authorization is required. 
  18. Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.
  19. Ability to pass a criminal background check.
